A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE JUNIOR AUXILIARY OF NATCHEZ AND DECLARING THE WEEK OF APRIL 5, 1999, AS "JUNIOR AUXILIARY OF NATCHEZ DAY."

WHEREAS, the Junior Auxiliary of Natchez has been serving the needs of the Natchez community since 1951, and the week of April 5-10 has been designated as "National Junior Auxiliary Week"; and

WHEREAS, Junior Auxiliary chapter members provided over 1500 hours of volunteer service last year in a variety of projects within the Natchez community; and

WHEREAS, the Junior Auxiliary of Natchez participates in numerous programs, including: Operation BackPack, which provides backpacks and school supplies to needy first grade students; Angel Tree, a program designed to guarantee that the Christmas wishes of deserving children are fulfilled; KidCare Photo ID, which provides over 1,000 local children with an official identification photograph and information bulletin at no cost to them; Camp Sunshine, a week-long day camp given for the students at Pleasant Acres Day School; and teaching "Meology," an 18-week course in self-esteem, drug, tobacco and alcohol awareness provided for area sixth graders; and

WHEREAS, the Junior Auxiliary of Natchez is part of the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries with headquarters in Greenville, Mississippi, and over 100 chapters serving their communities in six states; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by such outstanding organizations as the Junior Auxiliary of Natchez, whose members have helped improve the quality of life of the children in the City of Natchez:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the Junior Auxiliary of Natchez for their many years of service and declare April 5, 1999, as "Junior Auxiliary of Natchez Day."

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Junior Auxiliary of Natchez and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
